Deputy Commissioner

Shirley Skyers-Thomas, JD MBA, is a dedicated advocate, author and coach. She began her legal career in private practice at the firm Skyers, Skyers & Harrell, LLC. She was as an advocate for children and youth as a Juvenile Special Public Defender. Thereafter, she continued advocating for justice while representing parents and educational organizations in civil and criminal matters.

​Her advocacy skills were enhanced further when she served as Counsel to the Senate Majority Leader working in state government. Currently she serves as the Deputy Commissioner at the Dept of Consumer Protection. In addition to law and policy, she is an Author and Executive Coach. UnLEARNed is her 3rd book, a guidepost for leadership and executive change management. She is a member of the service organizations Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and The Links, Inc and lives in Bethany CT with her husband and children.
